The Right Reverend Paul Colton, Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross in
expressing the profound sympathy of the people of his Diocese to all who
have been devastated and traumatised by yesterday’s dastardly acts of
terrorism in the United States of America, has asked clergy of the
Diocese to hold Services in the Principal Churches of County Cork on
Friday next in observance of the National Day of Mourning announced by
the Government.
The Bishop, accompanied by the Dean of Cork, the Very Rev. Dr Michael
Jackson, will lead the Diocese in these ceremonies at a Service in
Cork’s landmark Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral with a short Service at
10.30 a.m. culminating with a minute’s silence together with the rest
of Ireland at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
The Bishop asks for the assistance of the media in making this
Cathedral Service known so that together, we may show our solidarity and
compassion for those who have been bereaved not only in the USA, but
also in our own city and throughout the world, and in order also to pray
for the peace of the world.
A specially devised liturgy - a Service for the Peace of the World in
fellowship with the peoples of the United States of America - has been
circulated to all parishes. |
