ARCHBISHOP EMPEY TO PRESIDE AT SERVICE TO MARK THE OPENING OF NEW LAW TERM

Dublin, 28th September 2001

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Reverend Dr Walton Empey, will preside at the annual Service to mark the Opening of the new Law Term in St. Michan’s Church, Church Street, at 10.15 am on Monday, 1 October, 2001.

Also taking part will be representatives of the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. The address will be given by Dr. Ferdinand von Prondzynski, President of Dublin City Univeristy.

Dr von Prondzynski studied Law at Trinity College Dublin where he was Lecturer in Industrial Relations for ten years. In 1991 he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hull. He returned to Dublin last year as President of DCU. He is well known for his incisive comments on Irish life and society.

The congregation will include members of the Diplomatic Corps, the judiciary, barristers, solicitors and others associated with the administration of justice. Representatives of the judiciary from Northern Ireland and the UK will also attend.
