Tomorrow (Sunday) the Bishop of Lewes, the Rt Revd Wallace Benn
will preach in St James Church, Crinken, where he was at one time the
youngest church warden in the Church of Ireland. In St Colman's Church,
Farahy, the annual service in memory of Elizabeth Bowen will be held at 3.30
pm. Evensong, according to the Book of Common Prayer, will be led by the
Dean of St Patrick's, Dr Robert MacCarthy, and the address will be given by
Dr Gerard Dinneen.
On Monday evening in St Jude's parish, Belfast, the Church Society will
host a meeting with the theme "The Family Under Attack". The
speaker will be Colin Hart, Director of the Christian Institute, which seeks
to promote the institution of marriage and family life. In Christ Church,
Clifden, there will be a recital by the Balsta Chamber Choir from Sweden.
The second in the series of lunchtime lectures jointly sponsored by
Dublin Corporation and Christ Church Cathedral will be given in City Hall on
Tuesday. The architectural historian, Helen Byrne, will speak about the
sculptor, Simon Vierpyl, whose children were baptised in St Thomas' Church,
Marlborough Street, and whose burial is recorded in the parish register of
Athy.
On Wednesday the Archbishop of Armagh will preside at the Annual Prize
Giving at the Royal School, Armagh, and on Thursday he will join with other
church leaders in an official visit to the BBC in Belfast. On Thursday
morning in the Royal Hospital, Donnybrook, there will be an Autumn Fayre in
aid of St Mary's Home for Elderly Ladies, Pembroke Park.
