STANDING COMMITTEE NEWS

From the meeting of 25th January 2000

The Church of Ireland has been asked by the Office of Law Reform (NI) to respond to a Consultation Paper on Divorce Reform in Northern Ireland. The following have been asked to serve on a committee:

The committee has been requested to submit a report to the Standing Committee in March 2000.

Central Communications Board

In the light of the retirement of the Press Officer, the Central Communications Board is undertaking a complete review of communications in the Church of Ireland. A report will be available in March.

Broadcasting Committee

The Bishop of Cork, the Rt. Revd W P Colton and the Revd T W Gordon have been elected members of the Committee.

Secondary Education Committee

The Bishop of Cork has been elected to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Professor Trevor West.

Role of the Church Committee

The Committee was asked to make a response to a letter regarding Sunday practice. The matter is now being passed to the House of Bishops for pastoral guidance.
