Cathedral Arts:
an exhibition in
the Representative Church Body Library
In conjunction with the launch of the new Cathedral Arts programme at Christ Church
Cathedral, Dublin, (to include solo recitals, choral and organ concerts,
opera and drama during the summer months), a new exhibition in the foyer
of the RCB Library features
archive material from the cathedral's artistic past.
Music has been performed in Christ Church for at least 500 years. An
extensive collection of services and anthems dating from the early 18th
century has survived in the cathedral archives, attesting to this long
musical tradition. The archives, now in the RCB Library, constitute one
of the most significant corpuses of manuscript music in Ireland. The
exhibition includes an samples from this musical collection, as well as
programmes of theatre productions and other events such as flower
festivals, that have taken place in years gone by. |
