CHURCH MUSIC COMPETITION

The Dean and Chapter of St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh invite submissions from composers for a new work to celebrate the Millennium. Composers may choose to write a setting of The Holy Communion (ASB/APB text), the Evening Canticles (either ASB/APB or BCP texts), or an extended anthem (English or Latin). Given the significance of Armagh in the Irish Church, composers who submit an anthem might like to consider a theme or words with an Irish connection although this is not essential. The music should be written for SATB choir, with or without organ accompaniment. Preference will be given to compositions which are accessible to choirs of moderate attainment.

Submitted entries will be assessed by a panel of judges whose decision will be final.

A prize of Stg. £2,000 will be awarded for the winning entry. In the event of no work of sufficient merit being received, the prize may be withheld.

Closing date for the submission of entries is 30th December 1999.

Entries or inquiries, please, to The Dean of Armagh, The Library, Abbey Street, Armagh, BT61 7DY. Email: Dean of Armagh
