News Briefing


STANDING COMMITTEE NOTES

    At the meeting on 26 January 1999 the Standing Committee agreed the following business:
  • That the Commission on Episcopal Needs Report be returned to General Synod.
  • That the representatives of other churches to be invited to General Synod 1999 will include representatives from the Greek Orthodox Church, the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Lutheran Churches of the Porvoo Communion for the first time.
  • That the Bishop of Kilmore, the Right Rev Michael Mayes be appointed to the World Development Bishop’s Appeal Advisory Committee in place of Bishop Roy Warke who has retired.
  • That Mrs Andrea Wills (Diocese of Tuam) be appointed to the Priorities Fund Committee in place of Mr E W R Cookman who has resigned.
    The Very Rev Leslie Forrest has been appointed to be one of the Church of Ireland representatives at the Assembly of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland to be held in Swanwich from 23rd to 26th February.
